Morinaga Features Its Line of Mori-Nu Silken Tofu at the Natural Products Expo West Show in Anaheim March 7-9, 2014
Torrance, CA (March 1, 2014) – Morinaga Nutritional Foods, will be on hand at the Natural Products Expo West Show March 7th through 9th in Anaheim, CA. An exhibitor for nearly 20 years, Morinaga is the manufacturer of the first and only shelf-stable tofu available in the U.S. At the show, Morinaga will unveil a new package design for their 12.3-oz. size Mori-Nu Silken Tofu line—available in Organic, Extra Firm, Firm, Lite Firm and Soft at booth #2788 in the convention center.
“We are thrilled to be exhibiting at the show again this year to interact with retailers and consumers and show them the versatility and benefits of our products. Our new package design now clearly shows what we have been for years, non-GMO and gluten-free. These on-pack certifications ease the mind of the health conscious consumer,” says Hiroyuki Imanishi, President & CEO. “Our tofu is made from U.S. grown, high-quality non-GMO soybeans, and is an ideal alternative for eggs, dairy, poultry and red meat.”
Thanks to a unique, preservative-free package design, Morinaga Mori-Nu Silken Tofu has a 12 month shelf-life, making it a convenient item for both retailers and consumers, as it allows retail to stock and sell Mori-Nu for an extended period of time—substantially longer than refrigerated tofu, and consumers can keep it in their pantry longer. Mori-Nu Silken Tofu is available in either the refrigerated tofu area or on the shelf in the Asian foods section of retailers nationwide, such as Whole Foods, Kroger/Fred Meyers, Wegmans, Publix, Meijer, Ahold, Woodman’s and at regional Costco locations.
Mori-Nu Silken Tofu is a healthy, vegetarian, and high-quality protein that contains essential amino acids for growth. It is non-dairy, gluten-free and contains no cholesterol or saturated fat. The creamy-smooth texture and mild flavor of original Mori-Nu Silken Tofu make it ideal for everything from smoothies and cream pies to sauces, soups, dips, and main dishes. Retailers and consumers alike appreciate the miraculous package that ensures Mori-Nu Silken Tofu is free from contamination and easy to store in the cupboard or pantry.
About Morinaga Nutritional Foods
In 1985, Morinaga Nutritional Foods Inc. began marketing aseptically packaged tofu in the United States under the Mori-Nu brand name. Morinaga helped to develop a revolutionary new packaging process that seals in all the wholesome nutrition of tofu in an airtight, shelf-stable package. This aseptic packaging protects the contents from the harmful effects of light, air, and microorganisms without preservatives or irradiation. The Institute of Food Technologists voted Morinaga’s packaging "the #1 food science innovation of the last 50 years" because it increases nutrient retention and flavor while ensuring food safety. Other products include Mori- Nu Mates Pudding & Pie Mixes, Mori-Nu Nigari Silken Tofu, and Mori-Nu Silken Soy Puree.

Torrance, Calif.—American soy enthusiasts concerned about the presence of genetically-modified organisms, or GMOs, in their tofu or soy purees can add Mori-Nu tofu to their shopping carts.
Mori-Nu, made by Morinaga Nutritional Foods, Inc., (www.morinu.com) has always used US-grown non-GMO soy in its 10 products, which are manufactured in Portland, OR.
“Tofu is low fat and heart healthy. As producers of a nutritious product, we believe the ingredients we use to make our tofu should be free of genetic modification since we still don’t know the consequences of this new technology,” says Morinaga’s President and CEO, Mr. Hiroyuki Imanishi.
Mori-Nu was recently certified non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project (www.nongmoproject.org), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides North America’s only third-party verification and labeling for non-GMO food and products.

Tofu is the primary source of protein for over one billion people every day. According to the Soyfoods Association of North America (www.soyfoods.org), 42 percent of Americans consume soy foods or beverages at least once a month, compared to 30 percent back in 2006. More than 75 percent of consumers perceive soy products as healthy and 47 percent of consumers seek out products specifically because they contain soy.
Mori-Nu Tofu is a creamy, smooth silken-style tofu produced in a range of textures from Soft to Extra Firm. The firm textures are best for grilling, baking, broiling, or stir-frying. Soft is perfect for smoothies, dips, sauces, or as a dairy or egg substitute.
Silken Soy Puree (silkensoypuree.morinu.com) is an ingredient for food service and manufacturers providing a consistent, smooth texture perfect for beverages, salad dressings, sauces, ice cream, cheesecakes, pies, puddings, and custards.
Mori-Nu products may be found at Whole Foods, Kroger/Fred Meyer, Hy-Vee, Wegmans, Publix, Meijer, Ahold (Giants and Stop & Shop), Woodman’s, Harris Teeter, Winco and select Costco locations.
Morinaga Nutritional Foods, Inc. is a leader in developing new, easy ways for Americans to incorporate soy in their diet. Founded in 1985, the Torrance-based firm created unique “aseptically” packaged tofu under the Mori-Nu brand name to allow its tofu products to remain free of preservatives and irradiation, as well as to enable it to be shelf-stable without refrigeration until opened. This modern packaging designed by Tetra Pak was voted “the #1 food science innovation of the last 50 years” by the prestigious Institute of Food Technologists.
