About Us

Morinaga Nutritional Foods, Inc. (MNF) is a manufacturer of soy products based on Torrance, CA USA. We produce the popular Mori-Nu Silken Tofu brand, a line of silken tofu widely sold across the US and around the world, as well as the industrial and food service ingredient Silken Soy Puree. Our soy products are sold in a unique aseptic package that protects fresh tofu from light and bacteria and allows for a long shelf life without refrigeration—without the use of preservatives!



Our History

  • 1972

    Morinaga Milk Industry Inc., the second largest dairy manufacturer in Japan, develops silken tofu sold in an aseptic package, Using Tetra Pak's revolutionary new packaging process that seals in all the wholesome nutrition of tofu in an airtight, shelf-stable box, this new Morinaga tofu can be stored without refrigeration and consumed safely for many months after the manufacture date.

  • 1985

    Morinaga Nutritional Foods, Inc. (MNF) of Torrance, California began marketing aseptic- packaged silken tofu in the United States under the Mori-Nu brand name.

  • 1993

    With the success of original Mori-Nu Silken Tofu, Morinaga introduced low-fat Mori-Nu Lite Silken Tofu. Initially sold in both Firm and Extra Firm varieties, Mori-Nu Lite Silken Tofu contains just one gram of fat for every 6 grams of protein.

  • 1995

    Pacific Nutritional Foods, Inc. (PNF), located in Tualatin, Oregon, was established in October 1995 as a domestic manufacturer of aseptic-packaged tofu and subsidiary of Morinaga Nutritional Foods.

  • 1997

    Morinaga Nutritional Foods began distribution of its first domestically-produced tofu products manufactured at PNF. Tofu made at PNF is sold in a 12.0/12.3oz package with 18% more tofu than the original package.

  • 2000

    Morinaga Nutritional Foods introduced Mori-Nu Organic Firm Silken Tofu, the first Mori-Nu brand silken tofu to be made with organic soybeans and certified USDA Organic.

  • 2002

    Taking advantage of the shelf-stable and long life features of aseptic tofu, Morinaga Nutritional Foods began exporting to Canada.

  • 2003

    Morinaga Nutritional Foods began exporting to Europe and India.

  • 2005

    All Mori-Nu Silken Tofu is certified Kosher by the Kosher Supervision of America (KSA).

  • 2006

    Morinaga Nutritional Foods introduced Silken Soy Puree, an industrial and food service ingredient designed as a non-dairy alternative to dairy ingredients, with higher density than soymilk and a mild, rich creamy taste.

  • 2010

    Morinaga Nutritional Foods introduced Nigari Silken Tofu made with magnesium chloride (nigari). Nigari is a natural component of sea water traditionally used to make tofu in Japan, which brings out the creamy and sweet taste of soy beans.

  • 2013

    In keeping with the high quality standards of our parent company, Morinaga Nutritional Foods has always used exclusively non-GMO soybeans in our products. However, recognizing the importance of trusted labeling in keeping our consumers informed, we chose to enroll in the Non-GMO Project's rigorous Non-GMO Verification Program. In 2013 Morinaga Nutritional Foods completed our audit and Mori-Nu Silken Tofu and Silken Soy Puree were verified Non-GMO by the Non GMO Project.

  • 2013

    All Mori-Nu Silken Tofu and Silken Soy Puree were certified Halal by the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA).

  • 2014

    All Mori-Nu Silken Tofu and Silken Soy Puree were verified Gluten-Free by the Gluten Free Certification Organization
